How to Spot a Real Review

Is This DJ Review Real or Fake?

When making a purchasing decision, be it a hotel, restaurant, merchandise, or even a DJ, many customers will instinctively look for reviews on their pending purchase. Reviews can be a powerful tool in learning what to expect and how your prospective DJ works in certain situations. However, anyone can put together words of praise, how do you know you can trust reviews on a DJ’s site? Here’s some helpful tips to help you separate the real from the fake.

Clustered Dates

If the reviews are time stamped, it’s easy to look back and find patterns in when reviews are posted. Clients shouldn’t post with any discernible pattern. If you see a handful of reviews that all take place at the same time, you probably found a vendor that carved out an evening to generate some self-created praise.

Formulaic Writing

A real reviewer is likely to put a review in their own words. If all the reviews follow the same structure, that should raise some eyebrows. Likewise, if you see the same brand or DJ name spelled out and repeatedly (“DJ ABC from Company XYZ Entertainment is great. DJ ABC from Company XYZ Entertainment is professional. DJ ABC from Company XYZ Entertainment is a good choice.”) you should suspect that as a false review.

Reading Level

In all likelihood, a given DJ serves a lot of types of clients. Sum of dem write like this, lol. Others hail from a higher echelon of loquacious linguists. So when you’re reading reviews, pay attention to the writing level of each review. If you read 10 reviews that all sound like they could have been written by the same person, they just might have been.

Customer Name Attached

Amazon is a great place to find reviews because the site can verify that the person reviewing actually purchased the product in question. Sadly that feature isn’t available on most review sites. But look out for reviews with the next best thing: a direct link to the customer. Reviews that show the profile of the author is almost like having the signature of the reviewer, and lends greater credibility to all the reviews of that service. Extremely Positive/Negative

DJ’s have a lot of competition, and sometimes competitors like to play dirty. Look out for negative reviews that are highly specific about the person, and not necessarily written to give a prospective customer an idea of what to expect when hiring the vendor. Conversely, if every review lavishly praises the DJ in a way that boarders on the unbelievable, then maybe don’t believe it. It’s normal for clients to be enthusiastic, but some customers are going be simply content, and that mid-range satisfaction should be present in any extensive review list. If all the reviews praise the DJ as just short of divinity, that should raise an eyebrow.

This is just the tip of the iceberg; there’s so many more ways to spot real and fake DJ reviews, but these should give you a starting point to separate the real from fake when reading through DJ reviews.
